RESIDENTS are being urged to register to vote in order to make sure their voices are heard.

Wigan Council is reminding people to ensure they are registered to vote so they can express their opinion on topics that expect their everyday life by making their mark in the polling booth.

In May, residents will be able to vote for MPs and Wigan councillors if they register by April 20.

Lord Peter Smith, leader of Wigan Council, said: “As part of our Deal we ask you to have your say on the issues that matter to you.

“Every vote counts so don’t take the risk of losing your chance to make your voice heard in the general and local elections May 7.

“Check you are registered to vote and that your details are correct on the electoral roll before the deadline, otherwise it will be too late.”

You can find out which council seats are up for election in your ward by visiting wigan.gov.uk/Council/Councillors-and-Committees or to register, visit gov.uk/register-to-vote.

The deadline to register to vote is April 20; postal votes must be registered by 5pm on April 21 and proxy voting by 5pm on April 28.
