DETECTIVES investigating the shotgun shooting of Mark Walsh in Accrington were yesterday given more time to quiz two men arrested on suspicion of murder.

A 29-year-old and a 26-year-old, both from Lytham, were held after Mr Walsh was blasted in the head with a shotgun in an alleyway behind his Maudsley Street home on Monday.

The 35-year-old had an operation to remove pellets from his head, and his condition is now stable.

A police spokesman said officers were given permission by magistrates to continue to hold the pair.

A major investigation launched after the shooting, which happened at around 9pm, remained ongoing yesterday.

Police have asked people who know Mr Walsh to contact them and said their probe continues.

Det Ch Insp Dean Holden appealed for said: “I would appeal to anyone who has any information or who witnessed anything suspicious in the Maudsley Street area on Monday night to get in touch.”
