A ‘SUPERSTAR’ youngster has been nominated for a national award.

Caring Lily Giggs, aged eight, helped her family to cope after her little brother Isaac, who was born prematurely, was diagnosed with meningitis. Lily became a rock for her family with her caring and humorous nature.

When Lily's mum Melanie, aged 39, gave birth to Isaac four weeks early on July 4, 2012, he was well enough to go home, but two weeks later, when she noticed he wasn’t responding very well, he was rushed straight to A&E.

He was quickly diagnosed with meningitis and spent the next 12 weeks receiving treatment. Despite being only five at the time, Lily was a huge help to her family.

Melanie, of Manor Grove, Leigh, nominated Lily for the Super Sibling Award in Center Parcs Tommy’s Award, which celebrates a big brother or sister who has proven to be wise beyond their years after the early arrival of their new baby sibling.

Melanie, a hairdresser, said: “Lily was so excited to welcome her brother into the world and then everything changed in an instant and we had to prepare her for a situation that none of us expected.

“We just want to thank her for being a superstar, we are so proud of her. She has been there for everyone and made us laugh. It was tough for her and we had to put on a brave face through it all.

“Even now, she still wants to look after Isaac and she’ll say things like ‘put your shoes on.’ She’s helping him to walk and she just wants to be there for him.”

The doctors and nurses were so struck by Lily's protective nature towards her younger brother that they started calling her ‘Doc’ and dressed her up in a doctor’s uniform.

Melanie and dad Daniel got married on New Year’s Eve and Lily was chosen to be the maid of honour.

The winners will be announced at the Tommy’s Awards in a star-studded ceremony at the Landmark Hotel in London on March 20.
