She said she was horrified when she realised the dog was actually eating her.

Following the attack by the dog in Accrington in July the victim spent two weeks in hospital and has since undergone surgery and numerous skin grafts.

This week Leah Major, 30, of Marsden Street, Accrington, appeared before Blackburn magistrates charged with being the owner of a dog which was dangerously out of control in connection with the incident.

She was bailed to appear at Burnley Crown Court on April 27.

The magistrates requested information about what had happened to the dog following the incident and Parveen Akhtar, prosecuting, said it had been humanely destroyed after Major signed a disclaimer.

The magistrates requested that any press reports of the case included the fact of the dog’s death so as not to cause fear to members of the public living in the area.
