THREE cars parked in one street were destroyed in suspected arson attack.

Firefighters were called to Jury Street in Leigh after calls by a number of residents last night.

The cars — a Toyota Yaris, a Ford Mondeo and an Audi A4 estate — were parked outside an industrial estate.

Crews were alerted just after 10.15pm.

One resident, aged 60, who declined to be named, said: "I was out walking a dog and heard a bang and what sounded like fireworks and then saw a gush of flames when the petrol caught alight."

Neighbours believe that the cars belong to those based in the large industrial park, which contains a number of businesses.

Another resident, who also declined to be named, said: "I saw the flames and called the firefighters.

"The fire was well alight.

"The cars belong to people at the yard.

"A few people came down last night and moved a few of the cars, as there were more parked there.

"It is just the burnt out ones left".

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said north west fire control received a number of calls from residents, adding: "It is being treated as suspected deliberate ignition."
