A TEENAGE girl’s early morning jaunt in her brother’s car was very short lived.

Blackburn magistrates heard the girl, who had never had a driving lesson, put the automatic into reverse and backed into a neighbour’s car.

And before she could set off again members of Aliya Rashid Khan’s family came out of the house and stopped her.

Khan, of Hyndburn Street, Accrington, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking and driving without insurance or licence.

She was ordered to complete four sessions at an attendance centre, banned from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay £145 costs.

Andy Robinson, prosecuting, said the incident happened at 6.30 am and Khan admitted to police she had intended to drive the car to a shop to get cigarettes.

Imran Hussain, defending, said it had been a moment of madness on his client’s part.

He said Khan had been in the first year of a nursing course at Burnley College but had been told she would not be allowed to continue because of the conviction.

“As well as that punishment her mum grounded her for three weeks,” said Mr Hussain.
