IT was skip it Tuesday in Westleigh as a major clean-up of Westleigh got underway.

Community groups, including the Trees Estate Youth Group and local ‘street reps’, joined Wigan and Leigh Homes for ‘Tidy up Tuesday’ as part of The Deal.

Children from St Paul’s Primary and Westleigh Methodist Primary joined the Mayor of Wigan Borough, Councillor Susan Loudon, for a litter pick and Asda Leigh donated goodie bags of fruit as a well done to the children involved.

The tidy up was followed with planting behind the Trees Estate by children from 12 Apostles Primary School.

There was also an open day with The Deal team spreading the word on recycling, staying safe on the roads and how people can report environmental problems in their neighbourhood and a councillors’ surgery Westwell Street Life House when residents had their say and members of the youth cabinet joined The week ended with running activities for young people at Westleigh High School.

The Mayor said: “A huge thank you to everyone who joined in the clean-up. From volunteers and staff to primary school children, it was great to see the community pulling together."
