A GREYHOUND Rescue centre has started a fundraising campaign to expand and improve its facility.

Makants Greyhound Rescue in Mort Lane, Tyldesley, is a registered charity that re-homes ex-racing greyhounds.

The charity was founded by Siobhan Hoppley in 2013 after she was left horrified about the plight many greyhounds face after their racing days are up.

In two years Ms Hoppley, with a group of friends have re-homed 42 hounds and now the team wants to expand the charity to help other dogs in need.

Ms Hoppley said: "We'd love to get the greyhounds into warmer surroundings before winter sets in.

"We've done as much as we can with the limited funds we have, we just need a little help from our supporters and local companies.

"As we are a small charity we are run on a shoestring and rely heavily on our wonderful volunteers for help."

In order to carry out the improvements the charity needs to raise £9,000 and has set up a donations page in the hope that the community will help their cause.

Ms Hoppley added: "The Makants fundraising team are busy each weekend throughout the summer months at local dog shows and events raising as much money as they can.

"However, any money raised is usually swallowed up in the day to day expenses of looking after the greyhounds and on vets fees too.

"In order to build the new kennels the rescue have started a campaign to fundraise and have approached many local businesses for support.

"However, as it is such a small and relatively new charity, many people don't know about the re-homing work that goes on there.

""Our goal is to help even more greyhounds find their forever homes where they can become a loved and treasured pet and live out their days in comfort."
