AN eight-year-old boy has been hit by a car and taken to hospital with a head injury.

The young boy was crossing the road near Asda, in Atherleigh Way, with a family member when he was hit by a blue Vauxhall Sigmum.

Paramedics were called to the scene yesterday at 7:30pm to treat the boy who was unconscious.

Kira Smith, who saw the accident said: "All I heard is a pop like a tyre going over something and I looked up.

"The man quickly stopped in his car and ran over crying to check on the little boy.

"Some woman in another car going towards Atherton on bypass stopped her car in middle of the road to run over and help and others did the same.

"Next minute there were two police vans and a police car and then a paramedic minutes later."

The young boy was taken to Manchester Children’s Hospital with what police describe as a bad bang to his head.

He didn’t suffer any other injuries.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “He had what was described as a duck egg bump to his head but hopefully he is going to be okay.”
