A POLL among conservative in Leigh shows they are in favour of Jeremy Corbyn to lead the Labour party.

The Leigh members of the Wigan Conservative Federation were asked their opinion about who should lead the Labour Party up to the 2020 General Election.

Richard Short, Leigh Conservative and Chairman of the Wigan Conservative Federation commissioned an exclusive poll of Leigh Constituency members. The poll reflected the national mood by placing Jeremy Corbyn first with 50% of the vote but placed Andy Burnham third with 17% behind Yvette Cooper on 33%. Liz Kendall, trailing in a distance fourth nationally also came fourth in this poll not getting a single vote.

Mr Short said: "We have a genuine interest in the Labour leadership battle. We may not support his party but Andy Burnham is our MP and we are his constituents. If he is chosen by his party that would undoubtedly affect they way he serves his constituents. The results of this exclusive poll show that his opposite numbers in Leigh don't want him to be Labour leader.

"The poll didn't ask members for their reasons but showing a clear preference for Jeremy Corbyn is understandable. Since his nomination to the leadership race there has been an interest in politics not seen since the 1980s."
