A NEW fish tackle shop in Atherton is starting a community group to encourage more youths to get into fishing.

The Tacklemill shop in Victoria Mill, Bolton Road, is set to open on March 1.

And owner Peter Tatlock has been offered the use of both the land and pond at the back of the shop rent free by the landlord for the community group project.

He said: “There’s quite a bit of work that is needed but I have some equipment already.”

Peter has already received help from NC Fisheries in St Helens, which has given him 500 fish and 10 platforms.

But he needs further help and volunteers to get the project up and running.

Peter added: “I hope to open it up for free fishing to the under-16s to get kids more into fishing.

“I have four lads myself and they are always on their Xbox, so it would be great for them to get outside.”

Anyone interested in volunteering or helping in any other way can visit the shop from March 1 or e-mail Peter at jwgrub@live.co.uk
