THERE was a record attendance at this year's Step up and Dance festival in Hindley as £360 was raised for the Street Dance project.

Organised by Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles on behalf of Wigan Council and in partnership with Wigan and Leigh Homes, the festival at The Rose Club on Atherton Road on Sunday, April 17, boasted more than 80 dancers and 200 spectators.

There were street and contemporary dance performances from InspiringHealthy Lifestyles, Wigan Athletic Community Trust and Dance LEIGHders and a raffle was held with prizes donated by Uncle Joe’s, Atherton Roller Rink, Wigan Warriors RLFC, Wigan Athletic FC and the Three Sisters’ Race Circuit.

Katie Shone from Inspiring healthy lifestyles said: “The dancers have worked hard all year and deserved this fantastic celebration event, bringing all the sessions together to become one dancing community.

“Well done to all of the dancers and a huge thank you to everyone who came, supported and donated.

"There was a record attendance and £360 was raised this year, and it was fantastic to have other community groups attend the festival and for them to have opportunity to perform in such an amazing event."

The money raised will be used to pay for dance uniforms and transportation in a project encouraging more people to get involved with street dance.
