POPULAR workshops about life in Leigh are returning to the Turnpike Centre.

The MemorabLEIGH events, led by the Healthy Arts group, are aimed at people over the age of 50 who want to learn more about the history of the town.

They will be encouraged to remember and celebrate their own lives in the area and be creative while making new friends.

The workshops will be held at Leigh Library's Derby Room and run from 1pm to 3pm every Tuesday for eight weeks, starting on June 7.

Previous workshops produced audio recordings, a song about Leigh and a display about visitors' memories.

This time the plan is to make and fill individual memory boxes with items to record key moments and experiences, including fashion, music and films.

Each two-hour session costs £3, which includes refreshments and materials.

They are supported by Wigan Council’s Archive Service as a combined arts and heritage initiative, with a dementia-friendly approach seeing free places given to carers of attending participants.

The project is supported by the Big Lottery Fund, CreativeLEIGH and the council's Deal for Communities Investment Fund.
