THIS photograph of a whitethroat bird near Astley Moss is our picture of the week.
It was taken by amateur photographer and retired teacher Martyn Jones, of Merlewood Drive, Tyldesley.
The 60-year-old, who is a member of Leigh Ornithological Society, said: “After retiring I was looking for a hobby, and with always having an interest in wildlife and animals photography was ideal.
“I took this picture because the whitethroat bird travels from Africa every year to raise its young and it is special that they come to this area.
“Also it is a pretty bird. It has long tail feathers, which it flicks as it darts rapidly in and out of cover.
“It also has a very distinctive song.”
