A DISABLED woman had her purse stolen by pickpockets while shopping at a food store on Wednesday.

June Kate Lomax told the Journal she had just under £200 in her purse, which was taken from her bag at Iceland on Bradshawgate, Leigh.

The 57-year-old from Leigh was unaware that it had been stolen until she went to the till to pay for her shopping.

Fearing she had been the victim of a theft, staff looked at CCTV footage of the store.

June saw the footage and says it clearly showed two women appearance walk up behind her and one of them taking the purse from her bag.

June said: "I didn't know my purse had been stolen until I saw the women stealing it on CCTV.

"I was really shocked by what happened and I want to thank all the people at Iceland for being so kind to me."

Police have issued descriptions of two women they want to speak to in connection with the theft.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 2.45pm two women of eastern European appearance approached a 57-year-old lady from behind and took her purse from her bag.

"The lady, who was using two walking sticks at the time, only realised her purse had been taken when she went to pay for her food at the till.

"One of the women is of medium build and was wearing a long, cream-coloured coat and had long hair.

"The other lady was wearing a long, dark coat and skinny-style blue jeans.

"Both ladies where wearing headscarves so their faces could not be seen from the CCTV footage."

Anyone with information should call the police on 101.
