CHILDREN have been rushing to visit Atherton Park this week after the discovery of a fairy door in one of its trees.
Allan Balderstone from the Friends of Atherton Park made the door in the Compass Garden 'for the fairies who live there' and after a little bracelet was left there for them to polish a craze began whereby children have been taking the treat on the door and leaving another one behind.
With word of the fairies' activities spreading quickly on Facebook, youngsters have been going the park in their droves, looking for fairies and the treats they leave behind.
James Hunt, chairman of the Friends of Atherton Park, said: “This has been the best week since the group started.
"Children have been queuing up with excitement at this discovery and we have to thank little Isaac Robert who first discovered the fairies in the park."
Carol Roberts, member of Atherton Residents' Association, said: “The fairies seem to have settled in very well.
“The children have taken them to their hearts since they set up their home.”
