A CORPORATE Parenting Conference will be held at Leigh Sports Village tomorrow, Monday.

Now in its fourth year, the event aims to raise awareness and celebrate the role of corporate parents, who are councillors and officers who look after children in care, making sure that they all get the same opportunities and support to have the best start to life.

James Winterbottom, director for children’s services at Wigan Council, said: “Being a corporate parent is one of the most important roles for our staff and elected members.

"Events such as this give us the chance to hear about how we can make a difference to young people, and it is especially valuable to hear how our children and young people have found working with us as their opinions are the ones which matter the most.”

A conference also took place at The Pier Centre in Wigan on Friday, when speaker Luke Rodgers talked about how Foster Focus, the social enterprise he set up, is redefining how everyone should look at foster caring.
