LEIGH Spinners Mill has been granted lottery funding to create a community and education room in its restored engine house.

The Learning Space project boost will increase availability of accessible meeting rooms for community groups and enable them to run educational opportunities.

Leigh Building Preservation Trust Limited has received an Awards for All grant between £300 and £10,000.

It is one of 117 organisations in the north west receiving grants from the Big Lottery Fund.

This will see around £6.7 million shared among the organisations.

The fund supports organisations helping to improve their communities and the lives of people most in need.

Lyn Cole, Big Lottery Fund England grant making director, said: “These projects will make a huge difference to the lives of many.

“They are excellent examples of people working together to help others in their community to build on the skills they have and maximise their potential.”
