A KIND-hearted woman is marking her 49th birthday in an unusual way by having her head shaved to help cancer victims.

Sonia Chadwick, of Rogerton Close, will 'Brave the Shave' at Bedford Barbers on Chapel Street today, Thursday.

The veterinary nurse is hoping to raise £200 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The charity has been helping her dad David in his fight against cancer. He had to undergo surgery to have part of his colon removed in May and has to have chemotherapy once a week for six months.

Sonia said: “The Macmillan nurses are fantastic. They rely on donations and we can’t do without them.”

Brave the Shave is a fundraising drive designed to inspire solidarity with cancer sufferers who lose their hair during treatment.

Sonia was happy to volunteer and is no stranger to fundraising feats having taken part in a Memory Walk for the Alzheimer’s Society in September.

Her grandmother had Alzheimer’s and Sonia did the walk with her mum Jennifer.
