A KIND-hearted woman marked her 49th birthday by shaving her head to raise money to help cancer victims.

Sonia Chadwick, of Rogerton Close, Leigh, 'Braved the Shave' at Bedford Barbers on Chapel Street on Thursday to raise around £100 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The veterinary nurse decided to get involved after the charity helped her dad David, 71, in his fight against cancer.

He has had to undergo surgery to have part of his colon removed in May and is currently having chemotherapy treatment.

Sonia said: “I feel fantastic getting my head shaved.

"I have received so much support from the public and I am still appealing for more donations to get the amount to £200.

“I would tell other people to Brave the Shave as well because it is such a great cause for the most deserving and dedicated staff who work really hard to help others.

“Anyone thinking about doing it should just go for it.”

Brave the Shave is a fundraising drive designed to inspire solidarity with cancer sufferers who lose their hair during treatment.

Sonia has previously raised money for the Alzheimer’s Society by doing the Memory Walk with her mum Jennifer in September in memory of her grandmother who had the disease.
