THE shortlisted flicks for the Leigh Short Film Festival have been announced ahead of the glamorous red carpet event this Saturday.

Organisers have revealed that the third annual festival will feature 12 quality films with a mixture of styles including drama, animation and thought provoking issues.

The volunteer led event s a partnership between Leigh Film Society and film-makers Nag Nag Productions and will start at 7pm at the Turnpike Gallery in Civic Square.

Paul Costello, chairman of the event, said: “The level of entries in 2016 has exceeded our expectations.

“We hope that we have selected films that will appeal to everyone and give an overall view of the diversity of short film making.

"I know there will be a number of film directors who will be disappointed at not being selected but this year's standard of entries was high.

The selections for the festival are: The Song Plays On, Silence, Cold Reader, Jake The Magnificent, The Place Of My Birth, Spiral, The Key To Life, Circles, Broke, Twinsburg, Being a Dad and Wild Flower.

A £200 audience choice award will also be up for grabs on the night.
