A KIND-hearted schoolboy has raised £900 for a children’s hospice in memory of his cousin who died.

Eleven-year-old Callum White, of Hulme Road, Leigh, was inspired to raise the funds for Derian House Children’s Hospice in Chorley, where his cousin Chloe White, 16, spent time before she died of pneumonia in July.

Callum, who is starting at Westleigh High School, raised the cash through a host of charity events, including a car boot sale in Hindley, auctioning rugby balls and enlisting the help of family and friends.

This included holding raffles at the Royal Oak pub on Wigan Road and Richmond House nursing home on Mitchell Street.

He said: “I just wanted do something for Derian House, for all they did for Chloe and my family, the staff there are amazing and they could not have done more to support us.

“It has been a good way to remember Chloe and I felt really good giving the staff the money I raised.”

Chloe’s mum, Shelley, 34, said: “I am really proud of my nephew Callum for what he did in memory of my daughter.

“He is such an amazing young boy and it has been a welcome distraction to help him and thank the staff at the hospice for their hard work.”

Callum’s mum, Nicola, 35, added: “We are all so proud of him and he even wants to raise more in the future.

“He just came up to me and said that he wanted to do something for the hospice and I could see it meant a lot to him after losing Chloe.

“She had been born with several conditions and Callum often went to the hospice with his auntie Shelley, so he was very close to her and saw first-hand how the staff helped the family.”
