LEIGH MP Andy Burnham has officially reopened the newly refurbished Clapham Bakery after it suffered fire damage last year.

The MP cut the ribbon on the Chapel Street shop on Friday, which has been completely restored following a fire on Boxing Day which saw extensive damage to the branch.

Sharon Anderton, one of the managers at the bakery, said: “It was lovely to have Andy Burnham there supporting our shop and the community.

“He spoke to all of our customers and it was special for us.”

Mr Burnham said: “I was delighted to be invited to officially reopen the bakery and judging by the steady stream of customers who were coming through, their famous meat pies and pasties have not lost any of their popularity.

“I am confident that, with the improvements coming through like this that our town centre will soon see better days.”
