A HEALTH and lifestyle advice stall is returning to Leigh Market by popular demand.

The pop-up stall was a big success when it was first introduced to the market earlier this year, with more than 1,400 residents receiving support and 265 benefitting from NHS health checks.

Returning for three weeks from Monday, October 31, to November 13, the stall offers a range of services aimed at identifying health issues early and supporting people to lose weight, quit smoking, reduce alcohol intake, increase physical activity and stay independent and safe.

Professor Kate Ardern, director of public health at Wigan Council, said: “As part of The Deal for health and wellness we want to help our residents understand what changes they can make in their day-to-day life to become healthier and fitter, no matter how big or small.

“Our way of doing this is by physically bringing our knowledge to residents.

“Although the stall is only open for three weeks we want the impact to be long term and we are aiming to achieve this by ensuring residents know who they can contact should they have any questions about their health and wellbeing in the future.

“We feel that by bringing this service directly to the people of Leigh and engaging with them more personally they will be more likely to pursue our advice in the future.”

The stall is provided by the public health team at the council in partnership with The Deal and key partners such as HealthyRoutes, Care and Repair and Citizens Advice, who will also have a presence at the stall.
