AN elderly pedestrian has been killed after being in collision with a vehicle in Golborne.

He has been identified as Golborne resident John (Jack) Heyworth, 77, was walking on High Street at approximately 6.25pm on Tuesday, (November 29), when he was in collision with a green X-type Jaguar, which was headed towards the East Lancashire Road (A580).

Mr Heyworth was taken to hospital with multiple injuries where he died.

The driver of the car, a man in his 30s, stopped at the scene and was not injured.

GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit is now looking at the circumstances surrounding the collision and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Senior investigation officer, Police Constable Paul Hailwood, said: “Our thoughts are with the family of this man who have understandably been left devastated following his death.

“We have specially trained officers supporting them at this difficult time and we want to provide them with the complete picture of what happened.

“We are carrying out a thorough investigation to establish the facts but we need witnesses to come forward."

He added: “Did you see the collision? Or maybe you saw the car beforehand or the elderly man? Even if you think you might have only the smallest of detail, I would still urge you to call police as it could make a huge difference to our investigation.”
