AN injured motorist was taken to hospital following a collision involving a car and a van last night, Wednesday.

Fire engines from Atherton and Leigh as well as ambulance and police vehicles were called to the incident on Manchester Road, Tyldesley, shortly before 10pm.

A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "The units attended a road traffic collision involving a car and a van on Manchester Road.

"Firefighters used cutting equipment, lighting and a long board to release one trapped casualty, who was taken to hospital by ambulance.

"Firefighters were in attendance for approximately an hour."
