LEIGH will be the final pit stop on the Deal in Action tour as the programme celebrates visiting all of the borough’s wards.

Wigan Council’s Deal in Action has visited 18 communities since 2015 in a bid to engage with residents and find out what matters to them.

Council officers and volunteers will descend on Leigh for the second time in two months between Monday and Friday following an earlier week of action in December.

A Have Your Say session – giving residents the opportunity to meet the chief executive and leader of the council to voice their concerns and share their ideas – will take place at the Turnpike Centre from 5.30pm to 8pm on Wednesday.

Lord Peter Smith, leader of the council, said: “The first week in Leigh was a great success, with activities from Pennington Flash walks, community speed watch demonstrations, a Greater Manchester Spatial Framework drop-in session and more proving popular with residents.

"But because Leigh covers such a big area we decided to hold two weeks of action to ensure we give as many residents as possible the opportunity to get involved.

“We started this project in 2015 as a way to bring everyone together, and as a proud Leigh resident I am passionate about the town and would like to see residents feel more engaged with the council and playing a part in The Deal.

"I hope residents come to find out more about their council.

“Despite the fact that this will be the last week of action for now, residents will still have the opportunity to learn more about the council when The Deal days return to Wigan and Leigh town centres in June.”

Residents can get involved in a number of activities throughout the week.

There will be a litter pick with estate caretakers on Tuesday. E-mail Stephen Southern at S.Southern@walh.co.uk for more information.

A youth group for people aged 11 to 18 will be held at the Tesco Community Room on Wednesday, with more details available from Mehmood Ahmed at M.Ahmed@wigan.gov.uk.

There will also be a classic cinema day at the Turnpike Centre next Friday, January 27, with a screening of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington at 12.30pm followed by Day Son of Saul at 7pm.
