LEIGH Infirmary’s catering team are the toast of the hospital food industry after winning two prestigious regional awards.

Catering supervisor Tracey Coleman won the Team Leader gong at the Hospital Caterers Association (HCA) summer ball and awards ceremony.

The day shift production team were named Team of the Year.

Paul Riley, hotel services manager at the Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Trust (WWL), which runs Leigh Infirmary, said: “These prestigious awards acknowledge the exceptional commitment and outstanding contributions from north west members who have demonstrated excellence and innovation over the past 12 months.

“We have an amazing team of in-house caterers at WWL and the award for our day team and Tracey was thoroughly deserved.

“I am so proud of all of them.”

Astley resident Tracey Coleman has worked at the trust for 12 years.

The 53-year-old said: “I came here as a catering assistant but I was given a chance to become team supervisor so I had to prove myself.

“My role is to make sure everything is prepared and then goes out on time.

“I have got a really good, small team but we all have got to be motivated.

“I was completely shocked to win the award, even just to be nominated.

“When I won I was so happy.”

Leigh Infirmary’s day shift production team produce 6,000 meals a day for WWL patients and staff, as well as other hospitals, nursing homes and schools throughout the north west.
