A GROOMING salon in Leigh washed 94 dogs in 12 hours to raise money for abandoned and unwanted pets and help break a world record.

Pets at Home’s Groom Room on Parsonage Way Retail Park took part in a multiple location Guinness World Record attempt along with 84 other salons in Northern England and Scotland.

They had to wash 5,000 dogs in 12 hours between them.

With help from dog owners in Leigh and the surrounding areas, the Groom Room more than played its part as a new world record of 5,468 dog washes was achieved and more than £32,000 was raised for animal rescue charity Support Adoption For Pets.

Salon manager Sue Fletcher said: “Our team really rolled up their sleeves to wash lots of dogs and raise some valuable funds in the process.

“With all the proceeds going towards helping homeless pets it really makes the whole thing worthwhile.”

Owners were charged £5 to have their dog washed and dried at the salon on Saturday, which saw £470 raised.

All the money will be used to rehome pets across the UK by Support Adoption For Pets.

Sue added: “The in-store Vets4Pets practice also helped us fundraise on the day for Support Adoption For Pets, in addition to offering free weight and microchip checks for pets.”

The salon is awaiting official confirmation from Guinness that the world record has been broken.
