HENRY the greyhound is getting into the festive spirit as a rescue centre prepares to celebrate its fourth anniversary with a Christmas fair on Sunday, December 3.

Makants Greyhound Rescue North West on Mort Lane in Tyldesley has rehomed almost 200 greyhounds, most of whom were retired racers, since being founded in December 2013.

The fundraising festive fair will be held at the Boothstown Royal British Legion on Victoria Street, Worsley, from noon.

The rescue centre has a team of volunteers who help with fundraising, walking dogs, administration, home checks and fostering greyhounds.

The funds they raise enable the charity to adhere to its strict policy of ensuring that all dogs are fully assessed, neutered, vaccinated and microchipped prior to being rehomed.

Siobhan Hoppley, one of the charity’s founders, said: “We are lucky to have so many volunteers who ensure that each dog in kennels has a daily walk, which is no mean feat when there are up to 12 dogs eagerly waiting each day.

“Many people now know what wonderful pets greyhounds make due to their gentle, trusting nature.”
