A TYLDESLEY theatre society is up for winning four awards in May.

The Three Towns Operatic Society in Tyldesley is in the running for the Best Gilbert and Sullivan Production at The National Operatic and Dramatic Association Awards (NODA) for HMS Pinafore and Trial By Jury which were performed on the same night last year.

Rod Dakin has been nominated for Best Musical Direction for both productions.

Barbara Mayers, who played Buttercup in HMS Pinafore, is up for winning Best Female Comedy Performance, and Ken Rees, who played Dick Dead Eye in the the same show, has been shortlisted for Best Supporting Male in a Musical.

NODA representative Christine Hunter Hughes said: “It was a superb production with excellent singers, a great chorus which was bright and colourful.

"I thoroughly enjoyed the whole evening.

"The singing was absolutely superb with many wonderful characterisations across the whole cast.

"A most memorable evening."

The awards ceremony will take place in Manchester on Saturday, May 5.

The society are currently rehearsing for their new show, Orpheus in the Underworld, which will take place on five consecutive nights from Tuesday, May 15 to Saturday, May 19 at St Joseph's Hall on Chapel Street in Leigh.

Tickets for the event are priced between £11 and £13 with under 16s able to gain entry for £5.

Adult tickets are £2 cheaper on the first night.
