A MAN and a woman were taken to hospital after a crash last night.

The collision involved a silver Volkswagen Passat and blue Peugeot 208 in Paradise Street, Accrington.

A man and woman, both in their mid 20s, were taken to Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital after the collision at about 11pm.

The woman suffered a leg injury but the extent of the man's injuries are unknown.

One of them had also been trapped in a car and had to be freed by firefighters using cutting equipment.

Firefighters were on the scene for forty minute and the road was closed for some time following the crash. 

An ambulance service spokeswoman said:"We sent two ambulances to the scene.

"A man and a woman, both in their mid 20s, were taken to Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital.

"The woman suffered a leg injury but the man's injuries are unknown."

A police spokeswoman said: "We were called to reports of a two-vehicle collision involving a silver Volkswagen Passat and blue Peugeot 208

"The road was closed for some time."

A fire service spokesman said: At 11.46pm, two fire engines from Hyndburn were called to a report of a road traffic collision on Paradise Street, Accrington.

"There were two cars involved and one person was trapped.

"Firefighters set up lighting and used holmatro cutting and spreading equipment to extricate the person on a long board.

The person was passed into the care of the ambulance service.

"Firefighters were on the scene for forty minutes."
