WORK to install scaffolding on a building in danger of collapse is due to begin today, Thursday.
The Marklands building in Tyldesley was evacuated last Thursday by Wigan Council including people who live in the property's flats.
The local authority say a road closure is in place on Elliott Street, Stanley Street and Chapel Street while work is being carried out.
A council spokesperson said: "Scaffolding is being installed today and this is expected to take a few days.
"When the scaffolding is up and the building has been secured we will be able to open the road.
“We understand this is frustrating for businesses and residents in the area but we must make sure the building is completely safe before opening the road to traffic.
"We thank them for their patience at this time and apologise for any inconvenience caused.
“We continue to provide on-going support to residents while they are in temporary accommodation.”
