A NEW social enterprise centre or arts hub could be created in Burnley.
One proposal aims to turn Sandygate Square into “a cultural and performing arts hub” and a “regional canal-side destination”.
It would create a permanent civic and performance space with potential for an “iconic cultural building”, mixed use and residential developments at the edges.
The designers say: “Building on Burnley’s long established arts based heritage, we believe the Weavers Triangle has the potential to become a regional showcase for a thriving new cultural and arts driven economy.”
Alternative plans claim to be a “world class” design.
It would create a “sheltered hollow” with layered terraces where festivals could take place.
In their submission, the designers say: “Layers of infrastructure from the last four centuries in particular spur the project’s ability to deliver a powerful sense of place.”
