A PENSIONER was sexually assaulted as she pushed a pram in Atherton.

At around 2.40pm on Tuesday the 70 year-old woman was leaving a park on Bee Fold Lane when she was approached from behind by a man.

He sexually assaulted her then ran off.

The man, who wore a grey tracksuit with a stripe down the sleeves and a grey baseball cap, was anout 5ft 10ins tall and of medium build.

PC Shaun Hunter, based at Leigh police station, said: “The victim is understandably distressed about her ordeal and feared for the safety of her grandchild.

“We need to catch him. I would ask people, particularly women, to remain vigilant when in the area alone.

“It is likely there would have been a number of people in the park at the time of the assault and would like anyone who may have witnessed the assault or knows a man fitting the description to contact us.

"We are doing all we can to find whoever is responsible.”
