COUNCIL bosses are still reviewing the state of a town centre building that was on the brink of collapse after floods in Darwen.

The building in Railway Road has been supported by wooden buttresses for several weeks after the torrential downpours caused a culvert to collapse, leaving a hole in the alley behind the row of buildings.

At the time, the neighbouring barber shop and nearby solicitors Watson and Ramsbottom solicitors were evacuated.

Knott Street, which is directly behind the building, was closed for some time, but recently reopened when it was deemed safe.

Blackburn with Darwen Council’s highways manager George Bell said: “We are closely monitoring the building and are in discussions with the owner about resolving the situation.”
