A PACKET of cigarettes and a paper - morning staples for a huge percentage of the population when they call in at their local newsagents.
Now the Government wants cigarettes to be taken off view and vending machines to be removed from pubs.
A good idea? Anything that stops people putting their health at risk from the evil weed must be.

However, as with anything that is banned, demand does not disappear. Take drugs and guns - people who really want to get their hands on them still do.
Newsagents fear it will cut their trade and no doubt publicans, already suffering the effects of the smoking ban, will be joining in the protests.
Considering the Chancellor recently slapped an extra 11p duty on a packet of 20 in the Budget, it is surprising that anyone can afford them. Smokers may just as well light up a £10 note once a day. At least it would be better for their health, if not their pockets.

As a newspaper, I assume most of your employees are qualified in journalism and not medicine, so please stop making wide statements regarding what is or is not healthy. Give an opinion, by all means, but stop acting like the know all and end all. You are not experts, and frankly, we are not really interested in your opinion either. Stick to reporting the news as close to the truth as you can, which is quite often wide of the mark.

When are the population of this Country going to stop the de-braining that is happening now. It's getting to the stage when the Government will dictate what time you go to the loo. If people keep having the simplest decisions taken away from them it won't be long before any decision at all will be beyond them.
