THE announcement that Bolton FM has been awarded a licence to broadcast across the town should be celebrated on many levels.
The new radio station, which is expected to hit the airwaves in January, will be run by volunteers who will present programmes representative of Bolton's diverse communities.
The station will allow people and different groups to get their voices heard, which may not otherwise be possible on national and even regional radio or television.

It will mean the people of Bolton will have a voice and important public announcements that affect the town can be made to those that matter - the people who live here.
It will also allow local people to develop skills that will enable them to work in the media.
When it goes on air it is important that as many people as possible support Bolton FM and make it a success.
