PEOPLE are often quick to moan about the place in which they live, but less forward in praising their local area.
Westhoughton Town Council has just agreed to pay for three signs in the town, which would not seem such a big deal were it not for the fact that they will be used to remind people of some significant achievements.
The signs will specifically be used to shout about the achievements of the Wingates Band, which has helped put the area on the map over the past 130 years.

The new signs, in Chorley Road, Manchester Road and Church Street, will make locals feel proud and will broadcast the achievements of the band, stimulating interest in Wingates and Westhoughton.

-are you sure? Also lets face facts westhougton is an entirely different place to the rest of bolton/farnworth/lit
telever little hulton/highfield etc etc etc. Clearly westhoughton councils are of the 'because youre worth it brigade' -sadly they appear to be in the minority.

Signs already say, Historic Westhoughton.
We should have more on the sites of interest like the Civil War battle site, Luddite mill burning, etc and then produce a small tour pamflet to show the route round the town.
Westhoughton is different, at one time Westhoughton was more important than Bolton. To Howfeners it still is. We need to make sure BMBC treats Westhoughton with equal respect.
