A NEW fish and chip shop planned for Farnworth's main street is one takeaway too many, objectors say.
The shop is planned for Market Street where there are already 17 takeaway outlets and 23 closed shops.
Bolton Council approved the application despite more than 400 objections and two petitions protesting about the number of takeaways in the town.

The amount in Farnworth has spiralled in recent years and, as most of them only open at night, they give the main street a desolate, empty feel, especially when the number of closed shops is also considered.
But every story has two sides. Sarah Williams, who will run the chip shop, says that the premises has been empty for more than a year and that she will be opening during the day.
And, as the council says, it is better to see an open takeaway than an empty, shuttered shop. But it is hard to ignore the number of fast food outlets along a very small stretch of road.
Perhaps it really is time for councillors to start actively promoting Farnworth, which many local people feel has been neglected in recent years, and try to persuade a wider range of businesses to open in Market Street to bring new life into a once bustling town.
