New starters at school

There were some new starters at Harper Green School, Farnworth - a duck and her 13 ducklings who have taken up residence there.
Staff at the secondary school arrived to find the newly hatched offspring waddling along behind their parents in the school's quadrangle.
The pair had made a nest under a bush after taking a liking to the school pond at Easter.
Headteacher Phil Stewart said: "The school is over subscribed with pupils for September and now the pond is oversubscribed with ducklings."

Strange lights on Plodder Lane

Paul L Cunliffe writes: The five strange lights are actually street lights looking up Plodder Lane from the bottom of Smethurst Lane. The photo was taken at the height of the fantastic sunsets we had back in February. No-one believes it was taken locally but as an artist/art tutor these kind of skies and colours fascinate me.
