BOLTON West MP Julie Hilling met Paralympian swimmer Ellie Simmonds as she launched a scheme to improve facilities for disabled young people in schools.
Ellie visited the House of Commons in her role as projects ambassador for Sainsbury’s Active Kids For All initiative.
Ms Hilling said it was really inspiring to meet the 19-year-old swimmer, who won two gold medals in the London, 2012 Paralympics, and praised Sainsbury's for the project.
She said: “Many residents here in Bolton have played a huge role in collecting Active Kids vouchers helping young children understand healthy eating from a young age.
“With the Active Kids for All teaching programme it’s great to see how well the scheme is developing and the important part it plays in today’s educational society.
“I hope schools, groups and clubs across Bolton West will join this great scheme.”
Ellie added: “Understanding the balance between food and nutrition is something I’ve been very aware of as a young athlete.
“So, I’m really excited that Active Kids 2014 will help children learn more skills to get cooking as well as getting active.”
