DOG walkers complaining about a lack of waste bins have been told to take their pet’s mess home with them.

The Ladybridge pet lovers are kicking up a stink after the council said there were enough bins in the area and that they were responsible for cleaning up after their pets.

Marlene Wolstenholme, a member of the Ladybridge Residents Association who lives in Atholl Close, says she and her fellow residents are "really annoyed".

The retired midwife, aged 67, said: “There needs to be more bins for dog poo.

“It’s not hygienic to have overflowing bins and it doesn’t encourage people to pick up after their dogs.

“The people who don’t pick up make others suffer.

“I’m really annoyed that the council can spend millions on the town hall but can’t spend money on more dog poo bins.”

The residents association want more dog waste bins in Armadale Road and in the area surrounding The Walkway, near Ladybridge Primary School.

They say there is only one dog waste bin in the area, which has apparently led to overflowing waste and people refusing to clean up after their dogs.

However, the council says that there are five litter bins in the area, all of which can be used for dog waste.

John Tudor, chairman of the Ladybridge Residents Association, said: “The lack of dog waste bins is making this area an eyesore and poses a hygiene risk.

“The council should be emptying the bins more frequently and bringing more bins in.

“Part of the solution to this problem may well be education, but part is putting more bins in The Walkway.”

A council spokesman said: “We understand that some residents are asking for dog waste bins.

“However, residents are responsible for cleaning up after their dog and ideally they should take the waste home to dispose of in their grey bin.

“Bagged dog waste can also be disposed of in general litter bins.

“There are a total of five bins in this area and we would urge dog walkers to use these bins and we would like to thank them for disposing of their waste.”
