MEMBERS of Bolton’s United Kingdom Independence Party heard leader Nigel Farage claim the current political establishment has let voters down.

Speaking at the party’s conference in Doncaster, Mr Farage described the political system as “complacent and corrupt.”

Amongst the main policies outlined by UKIP ahead of the general election are plans to cut income tax from 40p to 35p for people earning up to £55,000.

Mr Farage also promised to raise the amount people can earn before paying any income tax to £13,500.

In his speech, the UKIP leader also criticised the government’s plans to join US-led air strikes on Islamic State targets in Iraq. Mr Farage said: “Dropping bombs will not make Britain safer.”

He also reiterated the party’s pledge to take Britain out of the European Union and to change the law so only English MPs can vote on matters that only affect English people.

Hulton Cllr Diane Parkinson, who displaced Conservative incumbent Andy Morgan in May, said she thoroughly enjoyed attending her first conference. She said she was very impressed with her leader’s battle cry.

She said: “It was very rousing.

“He was absolutely brilliant and showed that he just has a feel for what the silent majority in the country feel.

“The conference has been very positive so far and it is great to be around people from all walks of life who have come together with the same goal, to make the UK better.”
