A WEEK of activities to help build peace, harmony, friendship and trust in Bolton is more important than ever in the current climate of terrorist atrocities, faith leaders said.

People from across the town are being invited to take part in a range of events being held from Sunday until Saturday, November 22.

Chan Parmar, strategic officer for Bolton Interfaith Council, said: "As part of the national interfaith week of activities, we in Bolton have got a fantastic seven days of events for everyone to participate in, get to know more about other faiths and meet like-minded community people who have a vested interest in peace, harmony and building trust between our communities, locally and nationally.

"These kind of activities help to promote cohesion and, nowadays, this is so necessary in view of threats from fundamentalist organisations like ISIS and others who stand for everything that is totally inhumane and has no place in our society."

On Sunday, a walk of friendship will tour four places of worship, meeting at Zakariyya Mosque, Derby Street, at 12.30pm.

The group will then visit Emmanuel Church, Vicarage Street, Swaminarayan Mandir, Deane Road, and Bank Street Unitarian Chapel, where there will be light refreshments and multi-faith peace and friendship prayers.

The Bolton Hub, in Bold Street — home to Bolton Interfaith Council — will hold an open day on Monday, from 9.30am to 2.30pm.

It will give people the chance to drop in and find out more about Bolton Interfaith Council's work with Bolton Hindu Forum, Bolton Christian Community Cohesion and Bolton Council of Mosques.

Tickets are available for an event on Wednesday — Unity in the Community, at the 3D Centre in Bella Street, from 10.30am to 5pm.

Led by the Asian Elders Centre, many generations of people from different organisations will come together for Eid, Diwali and Advent celebrations.

There will be an Interfaith Shared Lunch at Emmanuel Church, from 11am to 2.30pm on Friday, November 21.

School pupils, children with learning difficulties and elders from the community will come together to share lunch and learn about other faiths.

On Saturday, November 22, a Street 20 Cricket Tournament will be held at Kearsley Academy Sports Hall, from 1.15pm to 5pm, for 11 to 18-year-olds.

It has been organised by Grace Thomas, youth and children's co-ordinator at Farnworth and Worsley Methodist Circuit, and will feature teams from the Interfaith Council, Hindu Forum and Council of Mosques, as well as Bolton Lads and Girls Club.
