THE borough’s newest political movement holds its first meeting since being recognised by the electoral commission tonight.

Farnworth and Kearsley First will be officially launched as a political party at Trinity Methodist Church, in Market Street, Farnworth, at 6.30pm.

Party leader Peter Flitcroft called on residents to come along and get involved. He said: “My message to people is that if you have any passion for Farnworth and Kearsley then come along, listen to us, share our vision and what are values are going to be.

The group is also looking for nominations for its executive group, which will go toe-to-toe with their Bolton council counterparts at election time.

Mr Flitcroft said: “We are going to pitch ourself against the executive members of the current council so we can stand up and directly fight our causes.

“And the other aspect is we are going to make sure we are covering the right topics and what people want us to be fighting for.

“It’s going to be very much open to the floor.”

And he said that it would be a an ‘exciting night’ for the group, which held its first meeting back in April.

He added: “We are official now and we are potentially the first of a new breed of political parties being set up to look after people’s concerns.”
