PRO-EU campaigners lobbied Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham’s office to demand he orders a survey into the impact of Brexit on jobs and the economy across the city region.

Groups including Manchester for EU, Manchester University for Europe and Manchester Scientists for EU, were involved in the demonstration.

Protesters handed in a letter urging Mr Burnham to instigate a Brexit impact survey, as they claim any negative effects will be felt disproportionately in poor areas of the Greater Manchester conurbation.

Catherine Dutton, who took part in the lobby, said: “It went really well, there were probably about 50 brave souls who braved the cold, it was a good turnout and we were representing thousands of members of pro-EU groups across Greater Manchester.

Carillion is a really good example of what happens when the powers that be don’t do impact assessments.

Sadiq Khan commissioned them in London, really detailed reports by Cambridge Econometrics and we really want Andy Burnham to do this for Greater Manchester.”
