THE partner of a councillor who died suddenly last year will stand for Labour in next month’s Farnworth by-election.
Cllr Darren Whitehead, who represented Hulton ward for Labour, died in November at the age of 49.
His partner, Rebecca Minors, has now been confirmed as the party’s candidate to stand in the Farnworth election on March 8, called after the resignation of Asif Ibrahim.
She will be up against the Conservatives’ Matthew Littler, UKIP ‘s Dave Harvey, Farnworth and Kearsley First candidate Paul Sanders, Lib Dem David Walsh, and the Green Party’s David Figgins.
The candidates for the forthcoming Westhoughton Town Council by-election in White Horse ward have also been revealed.
They include two sitting Westhoughton ward councillors — Conservative Martyn Cox and Labour’s Anna-Marie Watters.
Bolton Green Party leader Alan Johnson will also stand, as well as Lib Dem Deirdre McGeown and independent Kate Bridge.
Voters will go to the polls in both by-election on Thursday, March 8.
