BOLTON Council leader Linda Thomas is expected to announce the make-up of the various town hall committees tomorrow.

The result of the local election shifted the balance of the council in favour of the opposition parties and the membership of the committees must now be changed to reflect this.

Cllr Thomas will have the final say on which chiefs sit on which panels — and who chairs them.

But the number each party is entitled to on committees is set down in legislation and the council’s constitution.

Cllr Thomas will meet with town hall officers tomorrow morning before making the announcement.

Tory chief David Greenhalgh has urged her to appoint opposition councillors to chair scrutiny committees in “recognition’ of the local election result, which saw his party make two gains.

No details have been released as yet, but it is understood Cllr Thomas intends to adopt a more inclusive approach than her predecessor, Cliff Morris.
