TWO thugs battered a ticket inspector from Bolton and two innocent by-standers when they were asked to pay for their train journey.
The two boarded the early morning 05.17 Blackpool North to Manchester Piccadilly service at Bolton railway station on Saturday, March 29.
They did not buy a ticket and when challenged by the train's ticket inspector at Salford Crescent station at around 6.40am, they turned on him.

The 29-year-old victim from Bolton was repeatedly punched in the face by the two men, causing cuts and bruises.
They ran off up the station ramp and attacked two members of the public who were walking into the station.
PC Nigel Tomlinson, from British Transport Police, said: "I am appealing for any witnesses who were on this early morning train on Saturday, between Bolton and Salford Crescent, to contact us."
One of the thugs was white, in his early 20s, of slim build, with short blonde hair. He wore a black tracksuit with a hood.
The other man was white and in his early 20s. PC Tomlinson can be contacted on Freefone 0800 405 040. Alternatively call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.

If caught lets hope they are charged with grevious bodilly harm whilst carrying out a crime (theft from the rail company by not paying their fares).
Should then be put away for a nice stretch.
hat will happen is that they will not get caught, other will ride without paying fares, ticvket collectors will not challenge anyone for fear of being attacked and the long suffering rail traveller will be forced to pay higher fares to cover the losses caused by the fare dodgers (thieves everyone of them)

i wonder if it was the pompous little hitler who bullied me and my children when i travelled from manchester to bolton last year . the ticket inspector was intimidating and agressive , he deserved to be slapped .
sorry for the guy who got hit by the thugs maybe another ticket inspector would them up

A quite disgraceful justification of violence by the above numpties.
I wonder what your view would be if someone battered you in the course of your job.
You should be ashamed.

First, there's no GBH - cuts and bruises at the most ABH, more than likely be the lesser charge of common assault.
Second, ticket dodging is not a crime. Theft is, but dodging a fare is not theft. You cannot steal a service.
Thirdly, there is no such thing as
grevious bodilly harm whilst carrying out a crime
which kind of scuppers the whole plan!
And finally,
Should then be put away for a nice stretch.
More like £50 fine plus court costs.

Friends at the BN would not dare disclose anybodys personal details.
Le Roi, the internet Perry Mason needs to learn a few things, rather than making them up trying making himself look good, when it fact he's a prat.
Cow head, if anybody was to knock on your door, its Le Roi who's direct to jail.
I think he has far more to lose after his comments, as you've rightly pointed out.
If the BN decide to take some form of action on the strength of Le Rois, crying. Stating Libel. This will warrant complaint, one avenue would be press complaints. The basis of which would be very embarrassing for this Newspaper and the Group.
Le Roi may think he's all powerful, but this is only in his own mind.
I understand people with this trait, suffer frontal lobe damage. Probably had to wear one of those leather crash helmets as a kid, to stop him nutting walls.

Kingkong sorry but not paying your fare is an offence which carries various penalties including imprisonment upon conviction.
read the regulations and bye laws at most railway stations.
Kerry you did not pay your fare if he had not come round on the train would you have sent the fare you had not paid to the rail company?
The are no cheap single tickets as there are day returns. Should ahve bought your ticket from the booking office at the airport.
How much would have taxi from the airposrt cost Black cab nearly £40.00 so £9 was still cheap.

Can even be as low as £2.90 if you ask for a day ranger 0r £1.90 if after 6.00 pm. (or there abouts)on Sat, Sun and after 9.30 Mon - Fri.
Not valid though on the trains after midnigh till about 6.00 a.m.
But Le Roi you are right about the fare for a single person but there was more than one as she had children with her and who knows maybe a partner then we would be back at £9.00 approx

Ke3rry ther are no off peak cheap single tickets so the fare would be right. In future get a ticket before you travel or could even end up with a conviction for fare evasion.

I've no doubt she was hoping to avoid the fare.

Speaking of accents Fiddy, if I came to Edgeworth I would easily be able to identify you.
After years of suffering, having to listen to that ridiculously nauseating dialect that starts at Little Hulton and then continues eastwards, to Stockport.
I can detect a manc. accent immediately.

Kerry, you clearly don't understand the railways' fare structure. Regardless of if a Sunday is 'off peak', if you pass an open ticket office (as at Manchester Airport) - where you can buy 'off-peak' tickets, you MUST pay the FULL STD fare on the train. Guards are not permitted to sell cheap tickets on the train in these cases. Your very lucky you don't live in London, as if you had this attitude that journey would cost you £40 in Penalty Fares for you and your child!
